Melbourne: After an incredible
two hours play of hockey between Netherlands and Australia, the
defending champions Australia turned out to be the winners of the
Champions Trophy 2012, outclassing the Dutch 2-1 on golden goal.
With this win, Australia along with
successfully defending the Championship also recorded their fifth
consecutive victory in the Champions Trophy, a world record.
Aussie Kieran Govers fires the gold
medal winning goal 4:38 minutes into extra time for yellow shirts,
bringing an amazing end to the amazing match with an amazing goal. This
is 13th Champions Trophy win for Australia.
The action packed match began with Dutch
going all out, attacking every minute of the match, taking a 1-0 lead
when Sander Baart netted the first goal on a penalty corner 17minutes to
go in the half.
However, Australia pressing hard,
changed the gears and dominated rest of the match, scoring their first
goal in the first half and last during the extra time.
Earlier, Pakistan Hockey team beat India 3-2 in the third place play off and earned a bronze medal for the country after long eight hours.
