The world’s best hockey players will descend on Melbourne for the
first major men’s hockey tournament since the 2012 London Olympic
Games, the Men's Hockey Champions Trophy 2012, and you can watch all the
action live and exclusive on ABC1 from Saturday 1 – Sunday 9 December.
“Hockey was well received at the London Olympics and as the first major sporting tournament in Australia following the Games, I’m delighted to have the ABC on board as the host broadcaster, showcasing what will be an incredible competition of International hockey,” said Hockey Australia CEO Mark Anderson.
Reigning Olympic champion Germany and silver medalist the Netherlands along with host nation and defending Champions Trophy winners Australia will headline a formidable summer of hockey.
Hosted by ABC TV’s Stephanie Brantz, the experienced and popular sports broadcasters Quentin Hull and Peter Wilkins will lead the ABC1 commentary team from the State Netball Hockey Centre in Melbourne.
“It is not often you see the best 8 teams in the world from any sport gathered in one place. International men’s hockey is one of the most competitive and dynamic global sports and we will be witnessing the best of the best. Australian sports fans will be able to see every Australian game with coverage available on ABC 1, and via the ABC’s catch up TV service iView.”, said ABC Head TV Sport & Events Justin Holdforth.
Along side the Olympics and World Cup the Champions Trophy is regarded as one of the most prestigious events on the international hockey calendar.
It will be the sixth time Australia has hosted the tournament and after the success of the 2009 tournament in Melbourne, ABC’s dedicated broadcasting team will bring you all the action from on and off the pitch, with 19 hours of coverage including the finals, live on ABC1.
Held from Saturday 1 – Sunday 9 December, the Men’s Champions Trophy 2012 will include the worlds top six ranked hockey nations, Germany, Netherlands, Australia, Belgium, England, New Zealand and two invitational teams made up of India and Pakistan.
