Netherland beat New Zealand, to face Pakistan in semis

Melbourne: Netherlands earned a place in semi final as they seized a 2-0 win against New Zealand securing a spot in Saturday’s semi-final against unpredictable Pakistan.

With this crucial victory, the Dutch will go for their third-consecutive medal at the Champions Trophy. They also finish in the top-four for the record 25^th consecutive time at the annual event.

The Dutch were the clear favourites before the commencement of the match as they have lost only once in the previous Champions Trophy meetings against New Zealand.

Netherland’s Jeroen Hertzberger gave the Dutch the 1-0 lead 13 minutes into the action when he flicked the ball easily into the nets. At the end of the first half, Holland was leading 1-0 against the black sticks.

The second half started with the same as the first until Billy Bakker scored a critical and final goal of the match, enduring the 2-0 goal lead till the end of the match.

The Dutch have won bronze at the previous two editions of the Champions Trophy and have earned 21 total medals at the event.

Netherland has not played in the finals at the Champions Trophy since 2006 while green shirts played the final in 1998.

The Semi Final between Netherland and Pakistan will be played on Saturday.

Pak beat Germany 2-1 to reach semifinals of Champions trophy hockey

Shakeel Abassi scored goals in the 39th and 51st minutes Thursday to give Pakistan a 2-1 win over Olympic gold medalist Germany in a men's Champions Trophy field hockey quarterfinal.
Shakeel Abbasi scored a goal in each half, after the Germans went 1-0 up early in the match, to book a place in the semi-finals of the tournament.
The Greenshirts missed several chances, including three penalty corners, to better the scoreline but held on to beat the much higher placed opponents.

This was Pakistan’s only second win in the tournament, after losing against Australia and Netherlands but won against Belgium to ensure a quarterfinal spot.
Pakistan will play its semifinals match with Holland.

England Beat Germany by 4-1 In Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament 2012

England pulled off an upset against the world number one Germans.
It was the first time England had defeated Germany at the Champions Trophy and they controlled the match from the opening whistle, scoring their first goal through Adam Dixon on six minutes.
England continued to press Germany and scored again through Harry Martin in the 10th minute.
Things improved slightly when Germany pulled one back four minutes later through an own goal, but England regained their two-goal buffer with an own goal two minutes before half time.
The Germans lost their discipline throughout the second half, with their inexperienced line up producing many sloppy tackles.
England rounded it off with a fourth goal to Darren Cheesman and captain Barry Middleton revelled in finally beating Germany.
“You have never seen a bad German team. Whatever tournament they go to however experimental it is they are a good team,” he said.

MELBOURNE: Pakistan recorded their first win of the Champions Trophy as they defeated Belgium 2-0 in their second Group B match at the Champions Trophy in Melbourne on Sunday.
Abdul Haseem Khan broke the deadlock with just fifteen minutes remaining in the game and Shafqat Rasool sealed three points for the Greenshirts just before the final whistle.
Pakistan started brightly in the first half, creating a lot of opportunities but failed to convert them into goals. Belgium responded with pace and Pakistan’s defence put up a much better showing than they had against the Netherlands in the opening match of the tournament which Pakistan lost 3-1.
Belgium had many chances to score but an impressive performance by goalkeeper Imran Butt kept them at bay. The result leaves the Belgians as the only winless team in Pool B while Pakistan still have a chance to finish on top of the pool after Australia and Netherlands played out a goalless draw.

After a goalless first half, Pakistan lifted their tempo after half time, and a goal to Abdul Haseem Khan was followed by another from Shafqat Rasool to put the result beyond doubt.
“Yesterday we actually played good hockey but we missed our chances. Today we missed some chances but we managed to score as well, so this is very good experience for our young players,” Shakeel Abbasi said.
Pakistan play Australia in their next match on Tuesday.

India Beat Pakistan 5-2 in Hockey Super Series

PERTH: India beat Pakistan by 5-2 goals in the four-nation Super Series Hockey tournament here in Australia on Saturday.

This is the third consecutive defeat of Pakistan in the series.

Earlier, England beat Pakistan by 4 goals.

Perth: India stretched the mighty Australia before losing 3-4 in their second match of the nine-a-side Lanco International Super Series hockey event here on Friday.
Sardar Singh, Danish Mustaba and Gurwinder Singh Chandi scored for India while Craig Boyne, Jacob Whetton and Trent Mitton struck for Australia. Boyne scored a brace.
Indian take on arch-rivals Pakistan on Saturday. They had lost 1-2 to England Thursday. The nine-a-side format is played with two halves of 20 minutes each.

Superior England beat India 2-1

India fought well but went down to superior England 1-2 in the Lanco International Super Series hockey tournament in Australia on Thursday as they prepare to put the embarrassment of their Olympics campaign behind.
Gurvinder Singh Chandi put India ahead in the first half of the match but Dan Fox equalised before the half-time hooter as the teams went into their dug-out locked at 1-1. The second half witnessed end-to-end stuff, but David Condon's goal proved decisive as England bagged their first points of the tournament.
The Lanco International Super Series is the curtailed format of hockey, where teams comprised of 9 players each play two halves of 20 minutes. 

 
India will play hosts Australia on Friday before locking horns against arch-rivals Pakistan on Saturday in their last round-robin match. Meanwhile, in the other round-robin match, Australia defeated Pakistan 4-2 at the Perth Hockey Stadium in Bentley.
Apart from hosts Australia, the other competing nations in the Champions Trophy are Olympic champions Germany, Australia, England, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Belgium, India and Pakistan.
